Catching Up Is A Mirage
What We Can Do Instead

Hi friend,
This week, we're calling BS on the idea of catching up.
Let me know if this has happened to you.
Last Thursday, I blocked off a whole afternoon to catch up on work.
No meetings. No calls. Just me, coffee, and my to-do list.
By 5 pm, my list was longer than when I started.
I sat there staring at it, then I realized, catching up is a mirage.
Work will always be there because the finish line keeps moving.
But rather than spiral about it, let's think about what we actually have control over.
🔥Tiny Rebellion
Choose The Ending
The relief we're chasing when we're "catching up" isn't completion.
It's permission.
Permission to stop. Permission to close the laptop. Permission to be done.
Work isn't going to give us that. So let's give it to ourselves.
Pick one thing that will leave the to-do list in a better place than you found it.
Finish that one thing on purpose, cross it off with flair, then close the laptop before the list talks you out of it and be done for the day.
The to-do list will always have more. That's its whole vibe.
Don't let it live rent free in your head after hours too.
💡 Why This Helps
Work teaches us that progress looks like an empty inbox or crossed off to-do list, but as we all know, modern work doesn't behave that way.
Projects spawn new tasks. Emails generate replies. The system is designed to never end, especially with work apps on our phones.
There's a concept called the Zeigarnik Effect, where our brains hold unfinished tasks open like background apps running constantly.
That's why we finally lie down to sleep and then suddenly remember six things we didn't do.
Our brains aren't broken. They keep the loops open until they get a signal to close.
Choosing our last task for the day gives us that.
🩷Thank You

You have been telling us in the replies that you want more. More tools, printables, rituals, resets, maybe a little cosmic validation about why your job is exhausting.
We are are super excited to share a special announcement next week.
Thank you for being here, it’s only going to get better! 💖

What's something at work that never actually feels finished, no matter how much time we give it? I have a feeling we share some of the same ones.
We read and reply to every note.
Remember, some days the best self-care is simply deciding the day is over.
✨See you next week,

Sara Reiner, Founder
P.S. Somewhere between "just one more thing" and closing the laptop is a decision only you can make. Make it earlier than you think you're allowed to. 💖
