The Most Rebellious Thing At 2 pm

Especially Between Back-To-Back Meetings

Hi friend,

It was 2 pm on a Tuesday.

Back-to-back meetings since 9 am. Shoulders near my ears. Lunch… technically eaten at my desk.

Which isn't a break.

And then in what felt like meeting 5,000, I just… sighed.

Loudly and without even realizing it.

As a reflex, being in a room full of people, I apologized,

because apparently, we apologize for breathing now.

Then I realized, the most rebellious thing we can do at 2 pm is sigh.

Stop apologizing for it.

Start doing it on purpose.

🔥Tiny Rebellion

Permission to Exhale

Take two deliberate sighs.

Inhale through your nose. Exhale all the way out through your mouth.

Twice.

Drop your shoulders when you do it.

No explanation or permission needed.

💡 Why This Helps

Stress makes our breathing shallow. Air sacs in our lungs partially collapse. CO₂ builds up. That’s the feeling that everything is slightly too much.

Stanford researchers have a name for what fixes it: the physiological sigh.

Research from Andrew Huberman shows that two deliberate sigh breaths help clear carbon dioxide from the bloodstream and rapidly calm the nervous system.

Before your brain even has time to argue.

That accidental sigh in meeting four?

Not a problem.

A fix.

Turns out it was medicine the whole time.

Your body already knows how to reset. Sometimes it just gets there before your brain does.

📝Something To Save

The sigh is one of the tiny resets inside The Workday SOS™ for the moments when meetings start draining your soul, your shoulders creep toward your ears, and one more notification might send your laptop out the window.

So next time, let that sigh out. And make sure you get another one in too.
